In Estoril, nestled among garden-lined homes and the quiet of a residential neighborhood, this house built in 1941 had been forgotten. A house that looked more like a palace - one that had lived through another era. A time of long dresses, endless conversations, and staircases that bore witness to many heartbreaks.
When we found it, the late afternoon light still streamed through the windows, dust had gathered, and a green roof peeked out from between the branches. A ruin, though we refused to see it as ruined. The renovation didn’t erase any of that. It simply returned the house to the rhythm it had once known, now with new infrastructure, great comfort, and materials that carry its memory forward. Inside, a grand hall with vaulted ceilings, tiles, ceramics, and shutters.
Today, it is a house with a past and a future. It knows what it was and still has time to discover what it might become. The new life we gave this house is not a disguise, but a continuation. The quiet exoticism of the green roof, the service staircase leading to the attic, and the logically laid-out rooms, without ever losing their charm, preserve a certain timeless allure. But now, there’s a swimming pool, new window frames, and an interior that invites you to linger.
Close to the sea, the sun, and the capital, it holds on to the intimacy of those who still enjoy living slowly. A house that has grown without forgetting what it once was. Because, in truth, it never stopped being.
